Eng. (Dr.) H. A. D. Samith Buddika is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He earned his BScEng degree with First Class honors in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in 2009. He completed his M.Eng in 2013 and his PhD in 2017 at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), Japan.
He is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka. Additionally, he holds corporate membership with the Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka, and is an Associate Green Professional with The Green Building Council of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Buddika’s research focuses on earthquake-resistant design and analysis of structures, vibration-based health monitoring, UAV-based health monitoring, intelligent structural damage identification using image processing and machine learning, finite element simulation of special structures, and sustainable concrete materials.
His notable achievements include receiving the President’s Award for Scientific Research in 2018, the ACCESS Engineering PLC Award for the “Best Paper” published in the MODULUS of the Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka (SSE SL) in 2021, and the Award for the “Best Paper” in the Annual Sessions of SSE SL in 2022. He was also selected for the University Research Awards 2023 by the University of Peradeniya.
Currently, he is working as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Buddika has served as a consulting structural expert for several major construction companies and projects in Sri Lanka.

With over a decade of experience in both academia and industry, locally and internationally, I am well-equipped to contribute effectively to the council. My extensive background at the university, where I have served on numerous committees, has provided me with valuable insights and decision-making skills. I have also dedicated my time to volunteer on national-level committees and have previously served as an executive committee member of the IESL Kandurata Chapter. These roles have strengthened my natural leadership abilities and exceptional interpersonal skills.
I am committed to supporting and promoting the engineering profession. My focus is on finding innovative solutions to the current challenges in the industry and advancing engineering education in Sri Lanka to meet global demands. Together, we can drive progress and excellence in our field.
