Eng. Jude Kurera graduated in 2004 with a BSc. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya. He obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wayamba in 2017 and a Master of Sustainability in Environmental Policy from the University of Seoul in South Korea.
He joined the IESL in 2002 as a student Member. He became an Associate Member of IESL in 2006 and he was elected to the class of corporate member of the IESL in 2017. He served on the IESL council as a representative member (above 40) in sessions 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. He served as a chairman of the IESL Puttalam District Center for sessions 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 and meanwhile joint secretary of the IESL Wayamba chapter for sessions 2019/2020. He served on the executive committee of the IESL Wayamba Chapter since 2012, as the committee member in nine consecutive sessions from 2012/2013 to 2022/2023. He has served in the IESL Puttalam District Center since 2014, as the treasurer in three consecutive sessions from 2014/2015 to 2017/2018.
He commenced his career in 2004 as a Site Engineer at Arangalla Construction (Pvt) Ltd. In March 2004, he joined the Katunayaka Airport project as a project Engineer in October 2004. He has worked as a project manager, in Elemech Engineers (Pvt) Ltd. from April 2006 to January 2010. He worked as Senior Engineer in the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (ADB 5th) from 2010 to 2020. He has been working as Senior Engineer in Ratmalana – Moratuwa Wastewater Disposal Project in the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.
He is a member of Toastmasters International since 2018. He served as a president of the Lunuwila Toastmasters club for session 2020/2021. He was president distinguished club vice president of Toastmasters International for session 2019/2020.
Election Statement as submitted & certified by the candidate
I would like to continue my contribution towards the IESL, through the experience I have gained from the two consecutive IESL Council sessions (2020/2021 and 2021/2022), IESL Waymba Chapter and Puttalam District Center during the period from 2012 up to now. I played a prominent role in the Puttalam Toastmasters Club, which has formed by the IESL Puttalam District Center. I have been actively involved in promoting communication skills and Leadership skills among the IESL members. In addition to that, I have been actively involved in enhancing the service of Engineers to the public through CSR events.
If members decide to elect me, I will undertake the role with enthusiasm and take the opportunity; to represent Engineers’ views in the council to maintain our Sri Lankan Engineers’ standards of professional competence and code of ethics. As an elected member, I have always appeared for maintaining the highest professional standards in the IESL and wanted to reach the members of provincial chapters and empower them to engage in the activities of the IESL. I will also actively engage with IESL for the benefit of members in their professional development and uphold their rights and privileges. I would take every effect to encourage young Engineers to become corporate members of IESL.
