Eng. Lakmal Isuru graduated with B.Sc. Eng. (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in 2008 and was elected as a Corporate Member of IESL in 2021. He is also a Member of The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) as well as a Member of Sri Lanka Association of Building Services Engineers (LABSE).
He has actively served the Institution in various capacities since 2015. Currently, he is representing as a Council member of IESL and also as the Chairman of Building Services Engineering Sectional Committee. He further served as the Secretary of the aforementioned sectional committee for the session 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. Thus, he has been serving the Professional Affairs (PA) Committee and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Committee since 2017 up to date.
Eng. Isuru played the leading role for the task of reviewing the guideline of the ‘Directory of Building Services Engineers’ with the coordination other sectional committees of IESL.
Under his leadership, restructuring of the key whole Building Services Engineering related CPDs like Plumbing Engineering, Fire Detection and Protection Systems and Extra Low Voltage Systems were done to cater for the modern industrial context. Further, he played a valuable role in re-establishing the CPD courses of Building Management Systems and Vertical Transportation Systems and LPG System designs
Moreover, Eng. Isuru has shown his leadership capacity by heading the TECHNO team of Building Services Engineering Sectional Committee towards its excellence in consecutive winning of Gold Award from 2016 to 2019 in the IESL Techno Exhibition.
Eng. Isuru has extended his corporate social responsibility as a professional engineer to the country during the Covid-19 pandemic period by utilizing his engineering knowledge and experience to establish a proper Airconditioning and Ventilating System for the new ICU ward at National Institute of Infectious Diseases – Angoda (IDH) and a Medical Gas Distribution System for the Base Hospital – Marawila. Further, he actively involved in developing the national guideline of ‘Instructions for Selected Public Activities/Work Settings for the Prevention & Control of COVID-19’, published in 2020 as joint venture of Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services, World Health Organization, Government Medical Officers Association and Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Municipal Council.
During his career journey, he came through the path from an Engineer to a Senior Manager in the field of Building Services Engineering and has engaged in many designs related to the implementation of Building Services Projects both locally and overseas. His journey up to date is as follows.

- Engineer – Metropolitan Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (Pvt) Ltd.
- Senior Engineer – Shin Nippon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
- Manager – Mechanical and ELV – Maxaire (Pvt) Ltd.
- Senior Manager – Projects – DIMO (Pvt) Ltd
Currently he is undertaking the Member of Directors of DEMEP Consultants (Pvt) Ltd who is one of the leading MEP consultancy firms in Sri Lanka

With my experience with exposure gained as a Council Member of in the past consecutive two (2) sessions, I would like to contribute my best to the Engineering Membership
As the elected Representative Member – Above 40 in the session 2024/2025, I will,
- Continue and complete the planned events and activities of the past committee in the best ways.
- Actively involved in the Council to make correct and sustainable decisions for the betterment of the membership and the engineering sector.
- Be a trustworthy bridge between the Institution and the membership for their needs.
- Passionately work with the institution and other local/ international organizations to uplift the standards of Engineering profession.
- Make a strong contribution to establish the National Building Code with Engineering Membership and Other Stakeholders
- Work with Provincial/ Overseas Chapters and establish a strong contribution for their requirement engaging Collaboratory.
