Eng. R Ganeshwaran

Eng. R. Ganeshwaran graduated in 1990 from University of Peradeniya specializing in the field of Civil Engineering. He obtained MEng. (Structural Engineering Design), and PG Dip in Eng.(Construction Management) from University of Moratuwa in 2014 and in 2002 respectively. Presently he is following a Doctorate course in Business Administration at University of Kelaniya.

He is a recipient of Prof. S. R. De. S. Chandrakeerthi Gold Medal for best papers presented at annual session of Society of Structural Engineers Sri Lanka in 2014 for Computerized Optimization of the base width of transmission towers in Sri Lanka.

He became a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) in the year 2006. He is now a fellow member of IESL.

He has been involved with various programs of IESL for many years. During his years of involvement with the IESL he has been part of various committees. He is currently serving as a member of the Education Committee, Professional Affairs committee, Professional standards & Management committee, Educational Standard committee, Continuous Professional Development Committee, Degree Evaluation subcommittee and Civil Engineering Sectional Committee.

He was a coordinator to arrange the CPD Courses from 2016 to 2017.He has also served as a member of Infrastructure committee in 2015/16 and 2016/17 sessions.

He is a corporate member of Society of Structural Engineering Sri Lanka since 2019.

Eng. R. Ganeshwaran started his career at Ceylon Electricity Board in the field of Civil Engineering and has been working for 33 years. At present he is holding a post as the Deputy General Manager (DGM AM&C) and Project Director (Vidulakpaya Building Project) in the same organization.

He is a member of Lions Club International since 2007 and continues to provide services for the poor and needy people; support the neglected older population with their medical conditions; help the unprivileged children from under developed areas in the different parts of the country.

Presently he serves as the District Chairperson, Vision of Lions Club International in the District of 306B2. He has also held positions in the Lions Club of International, such as Zone Chairperson, President, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Chairperson in the Lions Club of Colombo Downtown. Further, he is contributing to the society as a Justice of Peace. He has also been serving as a life member of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society since 1997.

With extensive experience in project management and design across diverse Civil Engineering projects in Sri Lanka, I have honed my skills as a Supervising Civil Engineer for graduates. As a former staff/student liaison representative at university, I have continued my active involvement in institutional affairs through the Professional Affairs Committee, Professional Standards Management Committee, and Education Standing Committee. My dedication to promoting Civil Engineering as a career in schools and my participation in several Professional Review Panels reflect my commitment to the field.

In my roles as Deputy General Manager – Asset Management & Corporation, CEB, and Project Director at CEB, I have contributed significantly to financial decision-making. Additionally, my involvement in the International Lions Club, where I served as treasurer, showcases my diligent handling of club funds and Club President, Club Secretary, Zone Chairperson, Region Chairperson many time with my heavy duty schedules.

If elected as Honorary Secretary, I pledge to undertake the responsibility with enthusiasm and dedication, ensuring that members’ views and concerns are effectively represented in the Council. I am particularly committed to enhancing awareness and pride in the profession, especially among graduate and student members. I will independently adhere to the By-Laws and procedures of IESL, transparently conveying Council decisions to members.
