Vedanayagam Mernan graduated in 2007 with a BSc (Honours) degree in Civil Engineering from University of Peradeniya. He obtained an MSc from London South Bank University, UK in 2009.
He became a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) in the year 2013. He is currently serving as the Council member(2023/24) IESL and immediate past(2022/23) Chairman of IESL Vadakkin Chapter.
He commenced his career in 2009 as an Engineer in United Kingdom. In 2012 he returned to Sri Lanka and joined Department of Buildings, Northern Province as an Engineer on contract basis.
Then in 2014 joined Engineering Service Board Sri Lanka and served in Irrigation Training Institute, Galgamuwa, Irrigation Department and in 2016 he moved to Buildings Department, Northern Province as Design Engineer.
Then he served in Education Department, Northern Province as Director of School Works for two years and returned to Buildings Department, Northern Province in 2022 and assumed duties as a Design Engineer, and the position he holds up to date.

As a seasoned engineer with a proven track record of effective leadership as the Provincial Chapter Chairman and one year experience as IESL Council member, I am excited to bring my experience and passion to the role of IESL Council member.
Throughout my tenure as the IESL Council member and Provincial Chapter Chairman, I have successfully advocated for the interests of our local engineering community, fostering collaboration among members, and implementing initiatives that have enriched professional growth.
If elected to the IESL Council, I will leverage my experience to further strengthen the impact we can make as an organization.
My goal is to serve as a proactive and approachable council member, ensuring that every engineer’s voice is heard and valued. Together, we will continue to elevate the IESL’s standing and contribute significantly to the advancement of engineering.
With your support, I am eager to take on this new challenge and work collaboratively with the council and members to shape a brighter and more prosperous future for our profession.
