Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya

Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya graduated with a B.Sc. Engineering Honours degree from the University of Moratuwa in 1993. He obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering from the Open University of Sri Lanka in 1998 and Master of Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura in 2010. He is also an Attorney-at-law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

Eng. Kamburadeniya joined IESL in 1994 and became a corporate member in 1999. He is a Fellow and International Professional Engineer of the IESL, a Chartered Professional Engineer of Engineers Australia, and a Chartered Member of Engineers New Zealand. He is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK), the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (USA), a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (USA) and the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association. Kosala is a certified building services engineer, an arbitrator of the IESL, and a certified adjudicator of CIDA.

He was a council member of the Engineering Council of Sri Lanka (ECSL) from 2020 to 2022.

He is the Senior Vice President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, the chairman of the Education Standing Committee, and the chairman of the Legal Committee and Power & Energy Sector Committee of the IESL. Eng Kamburadeniya has been in the council of the IESL since 2014, for four (4) sessions as the chairman of the Electrical, Electronics, and Telecommunication Engineers Sectional Committee and three (3) sessions as the vice president.

Eng Kamburadeniya has led several national-level activities of IESL, including standardization of socket outlets, standardization of MCBs and RCCBs, Licensing of Electricians, and voicing IESL’s position on the current electricity sector restructuring as Sri Lanka’s apex professional body of Engineering.

He has been an active member of the Education Committee, Professional Affairs Committee, Professional Standards & Management Committee, Bylaw Committee and Legal Committee of the IESL. Further, he has been actively participating in several subcommittees and serving as a panellist for professional reviews, International Professional Engineer interviews, and organization evaluations to provide training for charter aspirants. He has worked closely with the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) in past years to make improvements to the M&E field and represented the IESL in the Credential Committee and main planning committee of the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

He has 31 years of extensive industrial experience with both semi-government and private sector organizations, including Ceylon Electricity Board, Asia Power (Pvt) Ltd., MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd., and Brandix Casual Wear (Pvt) Ltd. He is currently the Managing Director/Principal Consultant of K2 Consultants (Pvt) Ltd and a director in several other organizations.

Eng. Kamburadeniya’s professional experience covers installation, testing, & commissioning, operations and maintenance of diesel power plants, maintenance management, lean manufacturing & process improvement, setting up greenfield plants, and consulting services in engineering designs & project management.

As a practicing engineer who understands the realities of the engineering profession in the country, Kosala has been able to voice the challenges faced by engineers in the country in the council during the last few years. More importantly, as a visionary professional driven by principles and with a clean, professional record, Kosala has been able to do the right thing for the institution and society while remaining independent.

  1. Ensure that the Institute maintains its position at the apex of the engineering profession
  2. Strengthening the code of ethics for the engineering profession
  3. Standardization of all administrative/evaluation processes of IESL to maintain consistency and transparency as well as to provide efferent and effective service to all stakeholders
  4. Improve the competencies of engineers through practical and relevant CPD programs with the end objectives of
    1. To be more competitive in both local and international markets.
    2. To deliver high-quality professional work.
    3. To elevate professional and business-focused soft skills
  5. Maintain the highest level of competency and transparency at the IESL to ensure recognition of members by all international engineering bodies.
  6. Maintaining a high standard of Engineering Education through a strict and consistent process of recognizing/accrediting Engineering Educational programs in the country
  7. Provide a forum to give voice and find solutions to the practical problems faced by the Engineers in the country
  8. Elevating IESL to be an influential stakeholder in policy-making/national-level initiatives in the country
  9. Protecting/increasing cadre position in technical areas, specifically in government organizations.
  10. Establishing a career progression path for all membership categories of IESL without compromising the standards
  11. Empowering Provincial/Overseas Chapters and promoting young members’ participation.
  12. Make the IESL a value-adding institution for its members and the profession.
  13. Ensure the independence of the IESL and the unity of its council, all forums and membership
